Retro Holiday Ham Toastie
Turn your holiday left overs into your next meal.
This sandwich is a playful throwback to the retro holiday ham—pineapple rings, maraschino cherries, and all—pressed into a warm, melty toastie. It takes the iconic flavors of a classic glazed ham centerpiece and turns them into a sweet-savory, slightly kitschy, totally delicious handheld. With gooey Muenster, tangy mustard, juicy pineapple, and those bright red cherries tucked inside (and perched proudly on top), it’s like the 1950s dinner-party aesthetic… but in sandwich form. Perfect for leftover holiday ham or anytime you’re craving a comforting taste of vintage holiday charm.
Equipment
Ingredients:
- 2 slices bread
- 2 slices munster cheese
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 2 slices ham, preferably leftovers from a holiday ham roast
- 3 pineapple rings
- 5 maraschino cherries
Directions:
Assemble:
- Carve your ham from your festive dinner.
- Two your preferred slices of bread, add the ham, then two of the pineapple rings.
- Add in 3 of the cherries, and break them apart if you want them to be more evenly spread in the sandwich.
- Top with the other slice of cheese, then the bread, and close the Toastie Press.
Toast:
- Put your Toastie Press in the right hand slot with the handles facing out.
- Toast in the toaster to your preferred doneness, low, medium, or high. We recommend High.
- Remove the sandwich from the Toastie Press and top with the third pineapple ring.
- Top with two cherries, and use toothpicks to secure the cherries and pineapple on top of the sandwich
